Time: 6:30 – 8:30 pm Mountain Standard Time (MST)
Held in conjunction with the American Epilepsy Society annual meeting in Denver, Colorado. Location to follow.
This is a working dinner for pediatric and adult epileptologists, epilepsy neurosurgeons, and nurse practitioners. Its purpose is to finalize a one-page transfer summary for young adults moving from pediatric to adult care after childhood epilepsy surgery.
Pediatric epilepsy surgery patients often reach adult care with complex surgical histories, implanted devices, recurring seizures, and limited legal or family support. This group is at high risk of falling off a “care cliff.” At our AES 2025 working dinner, clinicians agreed that a single brief transfer summary is the most practical fix. This year’s meeting will complete that work and include short talks on surgical records, neuromodulation devices, and transition readiness. It will frame the open questions and table discussions to facilitate agreement on the final content of the transfer summary. The approved summary will be published by the Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Alliance as a free resource for any center to use.
Moderated by our board chair, Dr. Taylor Abel
Speakers:
- Dr. Aria Fallah: surgical and shunt records that must survive into adulthood;
- Dr. Danielle Becker: what adult teams need to know about VNS, RNS, and DBS;
- Dr. Sucheta Joshi: medication history, transition readiness, and support beyond epilepsy.
Please rsvp by November 16, 2026.
