Description:

“Let’s Talk About Epilepsy Surgery” is our new awareness campaign about pediatric epilepsy surgery. In this second webinar in our series, Dr. Christine Baca, an adult neurologist at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, joins Monika Jones, our founder and CEO, to discuss what the research says about the parent journey to pediatric epilepsy surgery. It includes a deep discussion of the many barriers to surgery, the importance of a champion (a medical professional who is on your side and advocating for surgery) and the need for peer support. She is joined by two parents who discuss their personal story: Audrey Vernick, Director of Patient and Family Advocacy at The Brain Recovery Project; and Michelle Mottern, a nurse practitioner and member of The Brain Recovery Project’s Community Advisory Council. Both parents have children who required hemispherotomy to stop drug-resistant seizures.
