REGISTRATION LINK COMING SOON. \nJoin The Cute Syndrome Foundation and guest speakers from the Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Alliance (PESA) for an educational webinar on neuromodulation and surgical options for SCN8A-related epilepsy. \nIn this session\, Dr. Nancy McNamara will discuss when families and care teams should consider pediatric epilepsy surgery for genetic epilepsies\, focusing on neuromodulation therapies\, including Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS)\, Responsive Neurostimulation (RNS)\, and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). \nMonika Jones will share PESA’s “Epilepsy Surgery Saves Lives” campaign\, along with critical resources\, tools\, and support programs to help families navigate the surgical journey and empower them every step of the way. \nSpeakers: \n\n\nDr. Nancy McNamara\, MD\, is the Division Chief of Pediatric Neurology at Corewell Health East. She is a pediatric epileptologist with a specialized focus on pediatric epilepsy surgery and genetic epilepsies. Dr. McNamara serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Alliance and works closely with research collaboratives to improve surgical decision-making and functional outcomes for children with drug-resistant epilepsy. \nMonika Jones\, JD\, is the founder and executive director of the Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Alliance. She serves as principal investigator for the Global Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Registry. SUMMARY:Seamless Handoffs in Pediatric to Adult Epilepsy Surgery Care | Denver\, CO
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, December 7\, 2026 \nTime: 6:30 – 8:30 pm Mountain Standard Time (MST) \nHeld in conjunction with the American Epilepsy Society annual meeting in Denver\, Colorado. Location to follow. \nThis is a working dinner for pediatric and adult epileptologists\, epilepsy neurosurgeons\, and nurse practitioners. Its purpose is to finalize a one-page transfer summary for young adults moving from pediatric to adult care after childhood epilepsy surgery. \nPediatric epilepsy surgery patients often reach adult care with complex surgical histories\, implanted devices\, recurring seizures\, and limited legal or family support. This group is at high risk of falling off a “care cliff.” At our AES 2025 working dinner\, clinicians agreed that a single brief transfer summary is the most practical fix. This year’s meeting will complete that work and include short talks on surgical records\, neuromodulation devices\, and transition readiness. It will frame the open questions and table discussions to facilitate agreement on the final content of the transfer summary.
